World Intellectual Property Day

Women and IP: Accelerating innovation and creativity

April 26, World Intellectual Property Day. – Efor IP

World Intellectual Property Day (World IP Day) is celebrated on April 26, the day on which the agreement establishing the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) enters into force. World Intellectual Property Day, which is celebrated every year with various events held in all member countries with a different theme, is increasing awareness about the importance and value of intellectual property.

The theme of World IP DayWorld Intellectual Property Day 2023 was determined asWomen and IP: Accelerating innovation and creativity“.

In 2023, we celebrate the “can do” attitude of women inventors, creators and entrepreneurs around the world and their ground-breaking work.Women in all regions are shaping the world through their imagination, ingenuity and hard work, but often face significant challenges in accessing the knowledge, skills, resources and support they need to thrive.

Women bring new perspectives and talents to the table. But the difficulties they face prevent this. Very few women participate in the intellectual property (IP) system. This means that very few women benefit from IP. Therefore, we should encourage more women to use the intellectual property system to protect their jobs and add value to their businesses. We can do this by developing more and better technologies that work for everyone, building more successful women-led businesses, supporting the economic recovery and building better ones.

For generations, women have shaped our world with their intelligence and creativity. Women make up almost half of the world’s population. They represent a huge talent pool. We all benefit from actively encouraging women to use the intellectual property system.

World Intellectual Property Day 2023 creates an awareness for women to learn how to register and protect their intellectual property rights, earn income, create employment and make a positive impact on the world around them.

Intellectual property rights cover trademarks, design rights, copyrights, patents, plant diversity rights, geographical indications, trade secrets and more.

WIPO aims to further support national and regional efforts to create a legal and political environment for women inventors, creative designers and entrepreneurs to thrive.

Why April 26th?

Before the annual general meeting of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 1999, the Chinese Intellectual Property Office sent a petition to the Director General of WIPO; 21. mentioning that intellectual property will be one of the most important factors supporting social and economic development in the century, the importance of intellectual property rights for both developed and developing countries, and emphasizing the benefit of raising society’s awareness of intellectual property rights, WIPO recommends that April 26, the date of its establishment, be recognized by WIPO as “World Intellectual Property Day and celebrated on the mentioned date every year. The proposal was accepted at the WIPO General Assembly in 1999 and since 2000, April 26 has been celebrated as World IP Day.

As Efor IP, we support young people to protect their ideas with intellectual property rights. We value the ideas of our women and take part with them so that they do not experience loss of rights.
